Hawk-eyed FCC watchers over at PocketNews have spotted some curious paperwork for an unknown PS3 model called the “CECH-4001X.” The current, existing slimline PS3 is the 3000 series, and it has its FCC label in a different location to that shown in the new filing, leading Eurogamer to suggest that this could be a “Super Slim” variant

The Twitter for BlackBerry Gold Candidate (version 3.1.0.17) is now available for download in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. This should be the last version before an official release in App World, so get in on the fun while you still can. Some good fixes in this build that look to make it pretty solid.

Updated Twitter Bird
- Sharing Tweets over email fails to keep links shortened
- Reply Hotkey not working and menu item missing on the Tweet Details screen if the Tweet is Retweeted by you
- When replying to a Tweet with a location, location call out pops up over top of the text in the Tweet
- Main account was deleted/logged out from app after experiencing network issues
- Spell check dialog appears as well as the suggested usernames in Sign Up screen

With Twitter for BlackBerry out of the way, RIM has now released the latest update to Facebook for BlackBerry into the BlackBerry Beta Zone. This release has a few changes in it and RIM has listed some of the stuff they’re working on for upcoming releases as well.

New features of Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones 3.2.0.5 include:

- In-App view of Friends’ Birthdays
- Ability to add Friends’ Birthdays to the BlackBerry Calendar

Upcoming features in this version (to be included in the beta refresh release):

- Access to Facebook Events
- An update to the icons on the Navigation Grid

The update is available now for registered users of the BlackBerry Beta Zone, you can hit the link below to get started. Rumor has it, we’ll see a new BlackBerry App World update tomorrow as well.

Although the BlackBerry PlayBook 4G has been spotted on several occasions now, the previous sightings of it never had the device looking as though it was complete and ready for launch. The most recent info, coming directly from RIM CEO Thorsten Heins tells us we’ll soon see the BlackBerry PlayBook 4G for sale in the very near future. However, if that wasn’t confirmation enough for you, both N4BB and BB FR have some initial hands - on impressions posted up from their time spent with the device.

Overall, the impressions are as you would expect. A BlackBerry PlayBook with 4G instead of being only WiFi but N4BB also reports the device is currently running on OS 2.0.1.354 and certainly feels a little bit faster compared to the current generation BlackBerry PlayBook. In addition to that, it’s also noted there is no built-in BlackBerry Messenger present at this time so in order to make use of it you still have to bridge your BlackBerry.

At this point though, I only have one question about the device and that’s “How much is it gonna cost?”. We all know pricing is a huge factor in the tablet market and if RIM thinks they’re going to move the PlayBook 4G at the cost of what they initially had the BlackBerry PlayBook priced at, they’re wrong. It’s just not going to happen these days.

If you’ve been aching to while away hundreds more hours replaying Final Fantasy classics on the go, then Sony Japan’s got some good news for you. It’s finally revealed that the ability to play those charming, if a little dated, PSOne titles will arrive on the PS Vita’s next software update, version 1.80, later this summer. This little nugget was tucked away behind the news that a handful of PS2 titles, playable on all versions of the PS3, will launch in the Japanese PlayStation Store on July 25th. The first wave of titles include Biohazard Code: Veronica, Siren and Dragon Force, all priced between 800 and 1,200 yen. No news yet, however, on when (or if) a similar retro-gaming bounty will arrive outside of Japan.

Games studio Atari planned to launch a national gaming network over telephone lines in the mid-’70s, but the move was axed by Warner Communications executives after the company’s 1976 acquisition, according to founder Nolan Bushnell. “If we had gone ahead and done it, it could have essentially been the internet, in private hands,” laments Bushnell in a lengthy interview with TIME. “It’s kind of fun to think about owning the internet.”

Polaroid Z2300 Instant Digital Camera coming August 15th (hands-on)

Since retiring its iconic camera, Polaroid has been getting back into the instant photography business by combining digital imaging with a built-in printer. Now it’s announced the Z2300, a stylish and more powerful alternative to the tiny PIC-300 with a smaller form factor than the Z340 launched last year. The Z2300, currently on pre-order, bumps the specs and cuts the price of a similar older model, offering a 10-megapixel camera that can shoot in 720p video for $159.99. Film is loaded behind the display and prints out in a little over 30 seconds — besides its shape, the roughly business card-sized output looks a lot like that of the original Polaroid.
